A few words from the organiser Muddy Waters

2008 will be the the 5th year the tournament has run.  It all started when Gary Sposito was voted in as 1st team captain in 2004 and approached me with the thought of an annual tournament held at Southmead RFC, with this in mind we took the idea and came up with the idea of a 10's tournament as there where already successful 7 a side and 15 a side tournaments held in the Bristol combination.

After the sad loss of our Joeli Naivalurua in 2000. I thought the time may be right to approach the Naivaurua family and asked for permission to name the tornament The Joeli Naivalurua Southmead Super Tens, to which the family agreed and support continuosly to this day.

The 1st year the Tornament was held and Old Bristolians came out as winners, but since that date the Bristol Naivis have been unbeatable.  Lead by devoted brother Captain Richard Naivalurua and supported by Rob Naivalurua each year, a bunch of fit British Army lads turn up and destroy all teams that they play.

For the past 3 years, our loyal and respected sponsor’s, Avon Fire and Rescue Services, have helped the event grow into what we are told, is “the best pre season tournament”

Of course a big thank you goes out to the Bristol Referies Society who provide us with some excellant refs, Ivor Sobey, Steve Gazzard, Pat Gobey and Jack Russell are to name but a few, but to all those that have been part of the event, we are truly grateful and thank you.

also thanks’ to the teams that have supported us from day 1,  Sully Sports, Owen's Old Reds, St Mary's Old Boys, Old Bristolians, Bristol Navis and of course, our own, Southmead RFC.  Thank you also to the other teams that have since come on board to participate and enjoy this great event,  Pilning, Ashley Down Old Boys, Dings Over 35's, TNT gym and of course all those that make up the Barbarians side that always seem to give the organisation a night mare by getting into the plate semi final.

May I take this oportunity to thank you all for your continuous support for this event and I have no doubt this year will be the best yet.

Muddy

P.S This years tournament is being held on Saturday 30th August kick off at 12:00 and already has 10 teams entered.  We hear there may be three teams from the Army popping in this year.
